The Challenge
Our client, a young professional renting a studio apartment in Dubai Marina, wanted to make their compact living space smarter without violating lease terms. They were particularly frustrated by the AC running all night at full blast, inconsistent lighting for different moods, and the inability to control anything remotely. With a strict landlord and a security deposit at stake, every solution had to be completely non-invasive and removable.
Our Approach
Wireless AC Control
We installed a single wireless IR-based AC controller on the studio's split AC unit. The device mounts with adhesive — no screws, no marks. We programmed a sleep schedule that gradually raises the temperature overnight to prevent over-cooling, plus geofencing so the AC activates 15 minutes before the client arrives home.
Smart Lighting
Three wireless smart light switches replaced the existing switches — they snap over the original fittings without any rewiring. We configured three scenes:
- Focus — cool white, full brightness for working from home
- Relax — warm dimmed lighting for evenings
- Sleep — all lights off with a 10-minute fade
A smart plug was added for the bedside lamp, allowing it to join the automated scenes.
Unified Control
All six devices were connected to a single app with voice assistant integration. The client can control everything via their phone, voice commands, or the physical switches — whichever is most convenient at the moment.
